Nothing compares to the beauty, luxury and unique qualities of natural stone. Natural stone can be used in many applications from flooring, walls and counter tops, to fireplace surrounds and outdoor BBQs. Because it is formed naturally in the earth over time, natural stone cannot be duplicated in the laboratory or factory. It is truly, nature at its finest. Natural stone comes in thousands of different colors, textures and variations, and no two pieces are exactly the same. No other product approaches the uniqueness, durability and sustainability of granite countertops in the kitchen, bathroom, or any other location.
The journey from the quarry to your home or business can begin right here in America, or in quarries from faraway lands like Brazil, Italy, and India. Around the world, there is an enormous inventory of natural stone, and more is constantly being discovered. The combination of supply and technological advancements, have made natural stone very competitive with other man- made materials.
From the quarries, giant blocks of granite, marble, limestone, and other natural stone materials are carved out of the earth with diamond studded cutting systems, which drastically reduce the effort it takes to achieve this once time-consuming task. The giant blocks are then moved to high-speed gang saws; sophisticated and powerful, they reduce the time of slicing the giant two-ton blocks into slabs by more than half. The slabs are then polished in high speed polishing lines, which feature multiple heads to speed the process. Some of the finished slabs are immediately cut into floor tiles, while the rest are shipped to wholesalers and fabricators around the world.
Once you have selected the perfect material for your home, MGM Stone will do the rest. While some fabricators still rely on standard measuring techniques, the most effective method for achieving a perfect fit is to prepare templates of the area to be covered. The template is fabricated from thin wooden strips, which are glued together to reproduce a perfect replica of the area to be covered. Since walls are not always perfectly straight, the template process allows for imperfections to be taken into account. Our technicians will come to your home to make templates of the areas to be installed, ensuring the most accurate measurements to begin production on your new countertops.
At the fabrication shop, the templates are carefully placed and adjusted on the slabs. With more unique and exotic slabs, placement of the templates may require customer participation, to maximize the natural beauty of the stone. Once the alignment is complete, a precision water-cooled saw cuts the stone. The fabricated pieces are then edged using powerful diamond routers, to create the desired edge detail. There are several types of edge details to choose from, ranging from classic to contemporary.
When all pieces are cut, edged and polished, the finished product will be transported to your home or office. MGM Stone’s skilled craftsmen will install your new counter top and other components, making sure all elements of your kitchen or bathroom are fitted perfectly. Some installations will require two or more pieces to be joined together. These pieces will be fused on-site using a polyester resin in the joints. When complete, the resin will have a polished look, similar to the polish of natural stone.
Natural stone is a porous material and some types of stone are more susceptible to water and stain absorption. A special sealant is either applied in the shop or during the installation process to provide a layer of protection from stains. For counter tops that are used more frequently, it is recommended to re-apply a sealant yearly.
